I am Amy Gopperth, the face behind Batch Jewellery, where we offer sustainable jewellery making workshops & also craft our own unique, organic style small batch pieces.
Over my years of being a maker and creative, crafting jewellery has always been my artistic True North. It is the perfect combination of my love of working with my hands and being able to give beautiful, sentimental gifts to the people around me. Be it for yourself, or for someone you love; the act of gifting a piece of jewellery is one of connection, warmth and sentimentality. I always feel so fulfilled by the way my pieces can take on new value and mean something so special and unique to each wearer.
I make sure to be immersed in the natural world as much as I can be. Be it surfing, playing, or just simply existing and enjoying the sun - being in nature is my biggest source of inspiration. Having grown up in the haven of New Zealand, my respect for the natural world is inherent to my practice. I am inspired by nature, its perfect imperfections and its endless process of creation and recreation.
I use natural materials as a core part of the finished jewellery and within the process itself. Utilising methods such as sand-casting & wax-carving to showcase not only the natural materialities in which each piece is created, but the process in which they are made. Creating pieces that are one-of-a-kind – as each wave in the ocean.
I am all about happy accidents, perfect imperfections and beautifully unexpected results. My process and methods are not only my avenue for creative expression, but a conscious practice of allowing myself to surrender control to the outcome; to be excited and open to what comes.
Being a small-scale artisan working with natural materialities and processes means I am able to craft with both intention and curiosity; recycling, reusing and recreating my materials as I like and as necessary. I am proud to create long-lasting pieces of responsibly hand-made jewellery with a small footprint and unique story of creation.
